Chief amongst these is Phyrexian Dreadnought, which Selvala can use to generate 12 mana while his ETB trigger is on the stack. Since Selvala’s activated ability allows for the generation of mana equal to the power of the largest creature on her field, the list foregoes the higher cmc green utility fatties ( Regal Force, terastadon, etc.) and opts instead for the most mana-efficient, high-powered creatures available in green’s color pie. Getting Selvala safely on the field by turn 2 is always the first step in setting up a win for Brostorm.
In addition to draw-ritual-untap chains, Selvala offers a variety of easy to assemble 2-card combo’s, usually involving Staff of Domination, Umbral Mantle, or Phyrexian Dreadnought. In this way, Selvala can mimic the explosiveness of a UBx storm deck if left uninterrupted for even 3 turns. Untappers, draw spells, and a broad range of creature tutors enable the deck to extend a combo turn, eventually building the critical mass needed to establish a loop and win. Brostorm utilizes under-costed, high-powered creatures to act as ritual effects for powering out high impact plays or assembling combos very early in the game. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds combo (sometimes called “Brostorm”) is an exceptionally fast creature based combo deck in mono-green.
